Transformers Generation 1 Optimus Prime Price Tracker

Originally released in Japan in 1984 as the Diaclone "Battle Convoy," the toy which became known as Optimus Prime has become one of the most iconic symbols of the 1980s cartoon and toy culture, and highly sought after, copied, reproduced, and modeled.

Availability tends to be decent, with auctions and buy-it-now consistently available.  I've not differentiated among the several versions of the original G1, other than I don't consider reissues or knockoffs in the pricing.

Here's my breakdown:

Loose, No Trailer: Cab only, with or without accessories, any condition.
Loose With Trailer: Cab and Trailer available, with or without accessories.
Loose Complete: Cab, Trailer, and all accessories (paperwork not considered in completeness).
Complete MIP: Complete Optimus, with box in pretty much any condition.

  September 2016 IMPRESSIONS:

  • MIP Primes back down.
  • As usual, no major movement in pricing otherwise.  Some uptick in loose with trailer.

HIGH/LOW DATA THROUGH AUGUST

High/Low data is highest and lowest sale price, plus shipping, since tracking started.  High pricing for incomplete toys tends to be excellent condition with a lot of accessories; low pricing usually missing almost all accessories and toy has significant defect or breakage.  OCCASIONALLY a low may be a mis-priced item.

Figure High Low
G1 Optimus Prime loose No Trailer $50.45 $8.88
G1 Optimus Prime Loose With Trailer $167.47 $7.25
G1 Optimus Prime Loose Complete $276.45 $56.50
G1 Optimus Prime MIP $2,013.00 $79.95

Sample Data through August:

Loose with trailer tends to be the highest demand (and more for sale).
